How to use Split by bookmarks
- Choose a PDF that has bookmarks (a table of contents in the sidebar).
- Choose top-level bookmarks or the top two levels.
- Press Split by bookmarks and download each chapter.
Turn a long book or report into chapters
Manuals, e-books, reports and court bundles usually have bookmarks for each chapter or section. This tool reads those bookmarks and saves each section as its own PDF, named after the bookmark. It's much faster than typing page ranges by hand.
Private by design
Split by bookmarks runs entirely in your browser. Your file is processed on your own device and is never uploaded to a server, there's no sign-up, and the result is ready to download as soon as it's done.
Questions
My PDF has no bookmarks. What can I do?
Use Split PDF to split by page ranges instead, or add bookmarks with the Edit bookmarks tool first.
Can it split on sub-chapters too?
Yes. Choose “Top two levels” to start a new file at each chapter and each section inside it.
Are pages before the first bookmark kept?
Yes. They're saved as a separate first file.
